Saws are among the most recognizable woodworking tools.

Frame saws (pictured) made efficient use of expensive iron or steel and were used at every stage of cabinetry: from turning timber into planks to cutting delicate curves.

Carcass saws (the quintessential handsaw) for both crosscutting and ripping could cut planks and panels to exacting dimensions.

Back saws (short saws with a reinforced spine) were used for fine joinery.
